Abstract:

Systems and methods for plating printed circuit boards. Traces are formed using internal and external layers of a printed circuit board from conductive paths including contact pads to a side edge of the printed circuit board. The traces are connected with a plating bar to form a single conductive path that permits all conductive paths to be plated at the same time. When the plating bar is removed, the traces are severed to electrically isolate the various conductive paths. Traces are not present at a front edge of the printed circuit board by the contact pads. A small hole is drilled through traces used to plate transmission lines such that the traces do not affect the transmission characteristics of the transmission lines.

Media converters for use in optical-to-electrical and electrical-to-optical conversion. A media converter includes an outer housing, an electrical plug disposed on one end of the outer housing, an optical cable disposed on an opposite end of the outer housing, and circuitry that connects to both the electrical plug and the optical cable. Abstract:

An optical transceiver configured to perform calibration of digital diagnostics prior to providing the calibrated values to a host computing system (hereinafter referred to simply as a “host”) that is communicatively coupled to the optical transceiver. The optical transceiver includes a sensor that measures an analog operational parameter signal such as temperature or supply voltage. Each analog signal is then converted to digital samples by analog to digital converter(s). A processor executes microcode that causes the optical transceiver to perform calibration on the various samples to compensate for predictable error introduced into the analog signal prior to or during the analog-to-digital conversion. The optical transceiver may then make the calibrated result accessible to the host.

Abstract:

A method for calibrating the calculation of a laser power measurement with respect to specified operational and/or environmental parameters in an optoelectronic device, such as an optical transceiver module having a laser diode, is disclosed. In particular, the method includes sensing analog data that relates to light emission from the laser diode using a monitor photodiode disposed in the optical transceiver module. Additional sensors are then used to sense analog data that relates to the temperature and voltage of the monitor photodiode. The analog data is converted into digital data, then a formulaic relationship that relates the light emission data to the temperature and voltage data is used to calculate the laser power of the laser diode. Calibration by this method accounts for unintended effects caused by temperature and voltage fluctuations in the optical transceiver module.

Abstract:

Systems and methods are provided for determining and compensating for the laser slope efficiency of a light source positioned in an optical transmitter in order to properly set a modulation current for the light source. In one embodiment, a method for setting a modulation current for the laser of an optical transmitter is disclosed, wherein data relating to the laser transmit power and laser bias current at a plurality of laser bias current levels are sensed. A processor is then employed to calculate a slope efficiency of the laser using the data. The processor then determines a desired modulation current for the laser using the slope efficiency. Then if needed, the modulation current of the laser is modified to match the desired modulation current.
