  • Abstract:
    A method for providing a seal in an annular space between a rehabilitative pipe liner and a conduit wall is provided. Areas on the surface of a section of a conduit wall surrounding lateral connections are provided with an expandable sealing agent, preferably during an investigative and/or cleaning inspection of the conduit section and preferably without repeated withdrawal and insertion of equipment between the provision of the agent at successive lateral connections. The rehabilitative pipe liner is then installed in the conduit section and a curing agent or agents such as heat, visible light, ultraviolet light, chemical agents, sonic energy or other radiant energy means is applied to cure or form the rehabilitative pipe liner and to cause the expandable sealing agent to expand and fill at least a portion of the annular space that may exist between the rehabilitative pipe liner and the conduit wall.

The module navigates the length of the passageway of pipe via air pressure which also keeps the liner inflated. A winch attached to the module regulates the rate at which the module traverses the passageway or pipe. As the module makes its way through the passageway or pipe, the magnetron emits microwaves which cures the resin. Additionally, a thermal imaging camera can be utilized in the module or trailing the module to monitor the status of the curing of the resin in its entirety.

    An apparatus for use in installing a liner into a conduit as part of a repair procedure. The apparatus having a chamber which contains positive pressure to advance the liner into the conduit, a sealing inlet opening for feeding the pipe liner into the chamber without allowing positive pressure to escape from the chamber, and an exit opening through which the liner exits the chamber and advances into the conduit. The sealing inlet opening comprises a movable roller assembly and a rubber slot gasket communicating with the chamber and both sides of the pipe liner as the liner advances through the apparatus. One end of the liner is anchored at one end of the conduit and folded back over itself so as to create a pocket in the liner. Pressure is applied into the pocket which acts on the liner to evert it into the conduit.

    The present invention relates to method and apparatus utilizing distributed temperature sensing (DTS) to monitor the temperature of a cured-in-place pipe liner to determine if proper curing temperatures and times are achieved. More particularly, an optical fiber is placed in the pipe between the original pipe and the liner running the entire length of the liner. The optical fiber is coupled to a DTS unit at neo end. During curing of the liner, the DTS unit sends light pulses down the fiber from one end and detects the characteristics and time delay of light backscattered to the unit. The characteristics of the backscattered light is indicative of the temperature of the optical fiber, while the time delay between the sending of the light pulse and the detection of any portion of the backscatter signal is indicative of the round trip time of the light within the fiber, and thus the distance down the fiber from the DTS unit from which that particular backscatter signal originated.

    The present invention is an improved cutting device and method for cutting openings in rehabilitative sewer pipe liners and other surfaces in confined spaces. The present invention utilizes a stream of ultra-high pressured fluid as a cutting medium to reduce mechanical vibration, reduce the need for the withdrawal of equipment from a confined space for repair or bit replacement, and provide a cleaning medium that allows the cleaning of remote sensing equipment at the remote location without the need for withdrawal of the equipment. The device of the present invention is a generally cylindrical or oblong body and sled having a cutting head extendible therefrom for positioning and aiming a cutting stream of ultra-high pressured fluid towards a surface to be cut.
