Abstract:
The presence of eyeglasses worn by a human subject is detected regardless of whether the subject's head is viewed frontally or in profile. Image data within search windows defined relative to the subject's eye is processed to form linear representations of edge boundaries. Angles formed by intersections of the linear representations are determined and used as a basis for determining if eyeglass lenses are present. When prescribed eyeglass components are detected, the eye detection and tracking routines are configured accordingly.

Abstract:
A dynamic eye tracking system to track movement of an eye including the steps of detecting if a neighbor exists about the eye over a predetermined amount of time and forming a boundary for the neighbor. Eye candidates are tracked and a determination is made if the eye candidates are beyond the boundary defined by the detected neighbor.
System And Method Of Detecting Eye Closure Based On Line Angles
A system and method are provided for monitoring an eye to determine eye closure. The system includes a video imaging camera oriented to generate images of an eye, and a video processor for processing the images. The processor includes an edge detector for detecting edges of the eye in the image, and a line selector for generating lines at any of select angles representative of the detected edges. The processor determines the state of eye closure, such as an open eye or closed eye, based on an angle between two of the lines that select angles. The system may be employed on a vehicle to determine the eye closure state of a driver of the vehicle.
Method And Apparatus For Assessing Head Pose Of A Vehicle Driver
The head pose of a motor vehicle driver with respect to a vehicle frame of reference is assessed with a relative motion sensor positioned rearward of the driver's head, such as in or on the headrest of the driver's seat. The relative motion sensor detects changes in the position of the driver's head, and the detected changes are used to determine the driver's head pose, and specifically, whether the head pose is forward-looking (i. e. , with the driver paying attention to the forward field-of-view) or non-forward-looking. The determined head pose is assumed to be initially forward-looking, and is thereafter biased toward forward-looking whenever driver behavior characteristic of a forward-looking head pose is recognized.

A system and method are provided for monitoring an eye to determine eye closure. The system includes a video imaging camera oriented to generate images of an eye, and a video processor for processing the images. The processor includes an edge detector for detecting edges of the eye in the image, and a line selector for generating a plurality of lines at multiple angles representative of the detected edges. The processor determines the state of eye closure, such as eye open or eye closed, based on the number of lines at selected angles. The system may be employed on a vehicle to determine the eye closure of a driver of the vehicle.

Abstract:
A system and method are provided for monitoring an eye to determine eye closure. The system includes a video imaging camera oriented to generate images of an eye. The system also includes a video processor for processing the images generated with the video imaging camera. The processor includes an edge detector for detecting edges of the eye in the image and a line selector for generating substantially horizontal first and second lines representative of the detected edges. The processor determines the state of eye closure, such as eye open or eye closed, based on distance between the first and second lines. The system may be employed on a vehicle to determine the eye closure of a driver of the vehicle.
