Abstract:

A container of the gable top variety having a handle which resides within the bounds of the footprint of the container while further providing for the placement of a pouring spout on the top end of the container. In accordance with a further aspect of the invention, the container is formed from a flat blank of a paperboard-containing material having foldable panels which, when folded, define the gable top of the container, one of the two major panels of the defined top being larger that the second of these major panels and further being oriented at an angle with respect to the vertical which is different from the angle of orientation of the second major panel. In the present container, the pouring spout is disposed on the second (smaller) major panel and the handle is disposed on the larger of the two major panels. The handle of the present container may be formed integrally with the blank or attached to the partially or fully erected container.

A coated paperboard blank is placed in the mold and formed into the desired shape of the container. Polymers injection-molded into specific areas about the carton blank to hold the blank together and prevent liquid leaks. Polymer is also injection-molded to form a handle providing easy carrying and pouring. A pouring opening can be injection-molded onto the container top. The bottom of the package has an injection-molded lip to receive a container bottom at a later time.

Abstract:

A container is formed by a single side wall wrapped around to complete an enclosed space. The package is produced with a barrier board including co-extruded polymers, mono-extruded polymers and/or films. The package may or may not have raw edge protection. The container uses a paperboard cup technology to create a bottom. The packages will be able to easily hold 64 and 96 fluid ounces and use a design very different from the conventional gable top container. The paper packages produced will cost less than plastic packages made with barrier materials.

A cup-shaped container is adapted to be used with a promotional item. The promotional item is removeably attached to the underside of the cup-shaped container while maintaining the visibility of the promotional item. The promotional item comprises a substrate, an extruded film, and a communication media. The communication media is positioned between the substrate and the extruded film. The substrate is at least partially adhered to the extruded film to encapsulate the communication media while the communication media is at least partially visible through the extruded film.
