Abstract:
A process is provided for the preparation of thin films of cadmium sulfide by deposition of cadmium sulfide formed in the thermal decomposition of an aqueous solution of cadmium ammonia thiocyanate complex, useful particularly in the preparation of thin cadmium sulfide films on electrically-conductive substrates useful in photovoltaic cells, and on thermally-conductive substrates useful in solar energy absorbers, for energy conversion systems.

Abstract:
An overbased mixture of aliphatic and aromatic carboxylates salts useful in making low-fogging thermal stabilizers for PVC is made by reacting zinc oxide with fatty acid and such as stearic acid, then adding aromatic acids, and then adding and reacting one or both of magnesium oxide and calcium oxide, under controlled heating conditions to maintain fluidity while minimizing side reactions, and then conditioning the reaction product to remove volatiles.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a stabilizer composition effective to protect PVC resin against heat-mediated deterioration, comprising a mixture of barium and zinc salts of aliphatic C. sub. 6 -C. sub. 20 carboxylates and aromatic C. sub. 7 -C. sub. 12 carboxylates, organic triphosphites of the formula R. sub. 1 OP(OR. sub. 3)OR. sub. 2 wherein each of R. sub. 1, R. sub. 2 and R. sub. 3 is C. sub. 6 -C. sub. 12 alkyl or phenyl, and organic acid phosphites of the formula R. sub. 4 OP(OH)OR. sub. 5 wherein each of R. sub. 4 and R. sub. 5 is C. sub. 6 -C. sub. 12 alkyl or phenyl, or R. sub. 4 can be hydrogen. PVC film compounded with this stabilizer composition also exhibits improved wettability and adherence to water-based inks applied to such films.
A novel antimony catalyst for polyester condensation reactions is described comprising trivalent antimony having its valences occupied by dianion radicals of 1,2-diols and anion radicals or organic carboxylic acids. The molar ratio of antimony to dianion radical of 1,2-diol to anion radical of organic carboxylic acid is 1:1:1. The antimony compound is prepared by reacting a mixture of a 1,2-diol and a trivalent antimony reactant represented by the formula; ##EQU1## wherein Sb is antimony, R. sub. 1 is an anion radical of an organic carboxylic acid; and R. sub. 2 is selected from the group consisting of anions of alcohols, anions of organic carboxylic acids and mixtures thereof.

Abstract:
An aqueous stabilized antimony pentoxide sol composition, comprising from 25% to 35% antimony pentoxide, from 6. 5% to 17% of an amine and the remainder water, has been prepared. A dried composition obtained from this sol composition has also been prepared. The dried powder contains from 62% to 76% antimony pentoxide, from 17% to 32% of an amine and the remainder absorbed and combined water. This dried composition when added to water or an organic solvent readily forms the stabilized sol composition originally obtained.

Abstract:
An aqueous antimony pentoxide sol composition, comprising from 10% to 50% antimony pentoxide and the remainder water has been prepared. This sol composition also may contain up to 5. 0% of an amine if desired. When this sol composition contains the amine, a dried composition may be obtained from this sol composition. This dried powder contains from 85% to 95% antimony pentoxide and from 2. 5% to 10% of an amine, the remainder being absorbed and combined water. This dried composition when added to water or an organic solvent readily forms the stabilized sol composition originally obtained.
