In the semantic zoom view, the user is presented with a heading pane and a thumbnail pane and the menu bar is removed. The user can toggle from the editing view to the semantic zoom view by zooming out past a defined threshold using various user interface controls. Once the threshold is exceeded, the semantic view is presented. The editing view is returned to by selecting a heading or a thumbnail page, which respectively returns the user the page incorporating the selected heading or to the page incorporating the selected heading. This page will be displayed in the editing view at the same zoom level prior to toggling to the semantic zoom view.

    20130111332, May 2, 2013
  • Filed:
    Nov 3, 2011

    13/288326
  • Inventors:
Tristan Davis - Redmond WA, US
Ali Taleghani - Seattle WA, US
Joseph Wai-Yan Woo - San Francisco CA, US
Edgar Mark Sunderland - Seattle WA, US
Jessica Arwen Best - Bellevue WA, US

  • Assignee:
    MICROSOFT CORPORATION - Redmond WA
  • International Classification:
    G06F 17/21
  • US Classification:
    715247
  • Abstract:
An object is zoomed upon selection. A scaling factor is calculated for zooming the object based on current viewing properties of a document and properties of the object as well as the current size of the application window and device. The scaling factor to zoom the object is calculated such that after the object is zoomed, viewing the object is similar to a viewing experience for the rest of the document. Text of the document may be displayed to increase the readability of the document. For example, the text may be displayed such that each line of displayed text averages out to a predetermined number of characters (e.g. 50-75 characters) per line. A display size and width of an average character are determined and used to calculate how many columns of text to display within the display. When the zoom level of the text changes, the text is redisplayed.
  • Adjusting Content To Avoid Occlusion By A Virtual Input Panel

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20130111391, May 2, 2013
  • Filed:
    Nov 1, 2011
  • Appl. No.:
    13/287036
  • Inventors:
Nathan Robert Penner - Mountain View CA, US
Michelle E. Lisse - Kirkland WA, US
Benjamin Edward Rampson - Woodinville WA, US
  • Assignee:
    MICROSOFT CORPORATION - Redmond WA
  • International Classification:
    G06F 3/048
  • US Classification:
    715773
  • Abstract:
The display of a content area is automatically adjusted such that the display of a virtual input panel (e.g. virtual keyboard, gesture area, handwriting area, . . . ) does not occlude content with which the user is interacting. After adjusting the display of the content area, the content being interacted with is visible within the content area. The content area is automatically adjusted such that it remains visible during the interaction. In some situations, a content area may also be temporarily resized while the virtual input panel is displayed. When a zoom scale is set to automatically change in response to a change to the content area, the zoom scale may be set to a fixed percentage. When the virtual input panel is dismissed, the content area may be returned to its original configuration before the virtual input panel was displayed.
  • User Interface Interaction Behavior Based On Insertion Point

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20120185787, Jul 19, 2012
  • Filed:
    Jan 13, 2011
  • Appl. No.:
    13/005809
  • Inventors:
Michelle Lisse - Kirkland WA, US
Sin Wa Chui - Redmond WA, US
Tara Hopwood - Newcastle WA, US
Jessica Best - Seattle WA, US
  • Assignee:
    Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
  • International Classification:
    G06F 3/048
  • US Classification:
    715762
  • Abstract:
Automatic manipulation of document user interface behavior is provided based on an insertion point. Upon placement of an insertion point within a displayed document, the behavior of the user interface is adjusted based on a next action of the user. If the user begins a drag action near the insertion point, he/she is enabled to interact with the content of the document (e.g. select a portion of text or object(s)). If the user begins a drag action at a location away from the insertion point, on the other hand, he/she is enabled to interact with the page (e.g. panning) Thus, the interaction behavior is automatically adjusted without additional action by the user or limitations on user action.
