    C01B 2530
  • US Classification:
    423315
  • Abstract:
There is disclosed a process for preparing mixed alkali metal salts of tripolyphosphate. A solution of mixed orthophosphate salts, such as sodium and potassium is dried by spraying the mixture onto a hot tumbling bed of a mixture of phosphate salts. The dried salts are then calcined at a temperature in the range of from about 350. degree. C. to about 600. degree. C. , preferably above 500. degree. C. to form the mixed alkali metal salt of tripolyphosphate.

  • Filed:
    Nov 29, 1989
  • Appl. No.:
    7/442968
  • Inventors:
George W. Cadwallader - Maryland Heights MO
Louis A. Highfill - Union MO
Gregory D. Kurdys - Temperance MI

  • International Classification:
    C01B 1516
    C01B 2526
  • US Classification:
    423315
  • Abstract:
There is disclosed a process from producing granular sodium tripolyphosphate of predetermined particle size by means of calcining sodium orthophosphate dried from water solution and milled to a predetermined particle size. The tripolyphosphate is produced having approximately the same particle size distribution as the orthophosphate feed. Moisturizing the feed prior to calcining increases the assay of the product.
  • Process For Preparing Hemipotassium Phosphate

    view source
  • US Patent:
    60512008, Apr 18, 2000
  • Filed:
    Jul 13, 1998
  • Appl. No.:
    9/114724
  • Inventors:
Joan K. Glascock - St. Louis MO
Barbara B. Heidolph - Wentzville MO
Louis A. Highfill - Washington MO
  • Assignee:
Solutia Inc. - St. Louis MI
  • International Classification:
    C01B 2530
  • US Classification:
    423309
  • Abstract:
There is disclosed a novel process for preparing hemipotassium phosphate useful as an acidulant for beverages. An equimolar mixture of monopotassium phosphate and phosphoric acid is heated to a temperature above 100. degree. C. cooled with vigorous agitation whereby the liquid loses its free water and crystallizes to a relatively dry crystalline mass. When prepared by the process of this invention hemipotassium phosphate provides a dry, flowable, crystalline product which can be transported and handled easily.

  • US Patent:
    55781071, Nov 26, 1996
  • Filed:
    Jun 6, 1995
  • Appl. No.:
    8/468697
  • Inventors:
Robert V. Brill - St. Louis MO

Monsanto Company - St. Louis MO
  • International Classification:
    C05B 700
  • US Classification:
    71 34
  • Abstract:
There is disclosed a caking inhibitor for mono-and diammonium phosphates which is water soluble and effective at small concentrations rendering the phosphates acceptable in most utilities without separation of the inhibitor. The inhibitor is sodium sulfate. Effective amounts of this salt range from about 0. 5 percent to about 1 percent by weight in the ammonium phosphates. It is particularly advantageous that this salt is useful in both types of ammonium phosphates.
