Abstract:
A method and apparatus for merging log data for recovering one or more database data sets to any point-in-time in a single pass of log data sets. Using disaster recovery technology, the invention may be implemented to provide a method to reduce the time that a broken database is unavailable by processing recovery input data in parallel and recovering multiple database data sets, including areas, simultaneously. The invention reduces operational complexity and resource constraints experienced by IMS customers trying to recover database data sets especially in a data sharing environment. The invention simplifies the recovery process by eliminating both the need for change accumulation and the need to run separate recovery jobs for each database data set requiring recovery, thereby reducing the impact of recovery on system resources.

Abstract:
An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for providing parallel access to a data set configured for automatic recovery. The apparatus includes an access module, a conversion module, a recovery module, and a restore module. The access module establishes parallel access to a data set configured for “pair and a spare” automatic recovery. The conversion module converts access to the data set from parallel access to single point access in response to an application instance detecting an error in the data set. The recovery module recovers the data set using an automatic recovery process initiated by the application instance that detects the error. The restore module restores access to the data set from single point access to parallel access in response to successful recovery of the data set. Providing parallel access to a data set configured for automatic recovery ensures that data transactions are performed swiftly, reliably, and efficiently.

Abstract:
A system and method to automatically identify resources requiring upgrade in a hierarchical database management system. The system may include an input module to receive input identifying a single resource for upgrade. A comparator module may compare an active resource library to a staging library to identify additional resources for upgrade, and an incorporation module may incorporate the single input resource and the additional resources into an upgrade list. A generation module may then automatically derive a unit of change from this list, where the unit of change includes the single input resource as well as additional resources that interact with the input resource.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus to synchronize recovery logs transmitted to a remote site for recovering related databases having different logical structuring. In one embodiment, the related databases are a hierarchial structured database such as IMS and a relational structured database such as DB2.
