Methods And Apparatus For Shifting Focus Between Multiple Devices
A system, method, apparatus, means, and computer program code for shifting focus between multiple devices. In some embodiments, a method in accordance with the present invention may include determining a rule regarding when focus shifts from a first device, or an application operating on the first device, to a second device, or an application operating on the second device, and changing focus from the first device to the second device or their respective applications in accordance with the rule. The rule may be based on position or movement of a cursor on a display associated with the first device.
Method For Control Of Nox Emission From Combustors Using Fuel Dilution
A method of controlling NOx emission from combustors. The method involves the controlled addition of a diluent such as nitrogen or water vapor, to a base fuel to reduce the flame temperature, thereby reducing NOx production. At the same time, a gas capable of enhancing flame stability and improving low temperature combustion characteristics, such as hydrogen, is added to the fuel mixture. The base fuel can be natural gas for use in industrial and power generation gas turbines and other burners. However, the method described herein is equally applicable to other common fuels such as coal gas, biomass-derived fuels and other common hydrocarbon fuels. The unique combustion characteristics associated with the use of hydrogen, particularly faster flame speed, higher reaction rates, and increased resistance to fluid-mechanical strain, alter the burner combustion characteristics sufficiently to allow operation at the desired lower temperature conditions resulting from diluent addition, without the onset of unstable combustion that can arise at lower combustor operating temperatures.

Abstract:
A method for eliminating or substantially reducing unstable combustion conditions within a combustion chamber. By adding hydrogen to the inlet fuel mixture, the method provides a means for altering the overall combustion (reaction) rate and the resulting characteristic reaction time that, in turn, will eliminate or substantially reduce undesirable pressure oscillations. Moreover, the invention provides a low cost and easily installed method for active control of pressure oscillations within a combustion chamber
Automated Creation Of Filenames For Digital Image Files Using Speech-To-Text Conversion
John Vuong - San Jose CA, US Sarah Korah - San Jose CA, US Jay Keller - Sunnyvale CA, US
International Classification:
H04N 5/76
US Classification:
348231990
Abstract:
A system and method for automatically generating annotated filenames for digital image files allows users to create meaningful filenames for digital image files captured by a digital camera. After an image is captured by the digital camera, an audio annotation containing audio information is associated with the digital image file. The audio information in the audio annotation is converted to a text string using speech-to-text conversion. The text string is then associated with the digital image file as the annotated filename of the digital image file.
Method And Apparatus For The Control Of Fluid Dynamic Mixing In Pulse Combustors

International Classification:
F23C 1104
US Classification:
431 1
Abstract:
In a method and apparatus for controlling total ignition delay time in a pulse combustor, and thus controlling the mixing characteristics of the combustion reactants and the combustion products in the combustor, the total ignition delay time is controlled by adjusting the inlet geometry of the inlet to the combustion chamber. The inlet geometry may be fixed or variable for controlling the mixing characteristics. A feedback loop may be employed to sense actual combustion characteristics, and, in response to the sensed combustion characteristics, the inlet geometry may be varied to obtain the total ignition delay time necessary to achieve the desired combustion characteristics. Various embodiments relate to the varying of the mass flow rate of reactants while holding the radius/velocity ratio constant.
Fuel Combustion Exhibiting Low No.sub.x And Co Levels
Jay O. Keller - Oakland CA T. Tazwell Bramlette - San Ramon CA Pamela K. Barr - Livermore CA
International Classification:
F23C 500
US Classification:
431 8
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for safely combusting a fuel in such manner that very low levels of NO. sub. x and CO are produced. The apparatus comprises an inlet line (12) containing a fuel and an inlet line (18) containing an oxidant. Coupled to the fuel line (12) and to the oxidant line (18) is a mixing means (11,29,33,40) for thoroughly mixing the fuel and the oxidant without combusting them. Coupled to the mixing means (11,29,33,40) is a means for injecting the mixed fuel and oxidant, in the form of a large-scale fluid dynamic structure (8), into a combustion region (2). Coupled to the combustion region (2) is a means (1,29,33) for producing a periodic flow field within the combustion region (2) to mix the fuel and the oxidant with ambient gases in order to lower the temperature of combustion. The means for producing a periodic flow field can be a pulse combustor (1), a rotating band (29), or a rotating cylinder (33) within an acoustic chamber (32) positioned upstream or downstream of the region (2) of combustion. The mixing means can be a one-way flapper valve (11); a rotating cylinder (33); a rotating band (29) having slots (31) that expose open ends (20,21) of said fuel inlet line (12) and said oxidant inlet line (18) simultaneously; or a set of coaxial fuel annuli (43) and oxidizer annuli (42,44).
Acoustically Enhanced Heat Exchange And Drying Apparatus

Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the United States Department of Energy - Washington DC
International Classification:
F26B 1700
US Classification:
34 57A
Abstract:
A heat transfer apparatus includes a first chamber having a first heat transfer gas inlet, a second heat transfer gas inlet, and an outlet. A first heat transfer gas source provides a first gas flow to the first chamber through the first heat transfer gas inlet. A second gas flow through a second chamber connected to the side of the first chamber, generates acoustic waves which bring about acoustical coupling of the first and second gases in the acoustically augmented first chamber. The first chamber may also include a material inlet for receiving material to be dried, in which case the gas outlet serves as a dried material and gas outlet.
Non-Premixed Swirl Burner Tip And Combustion Strategy
Jay Keller - Oakland CA, US Susan Schoenung - Menlo Park CA, US
International Classification:
F23D 14/24 F23D 11/38
Abstract:
The present invention is a combustion strategy using a swirl burner tip, which is one of stoichiometric mixture of reactants (2H+O→2HO) with added high quality dry steam (HO (g)) as a thermal diluent. The amount of dry steam can be determined by the safety requirements of the reactants and the desired temperature of post-flame gases. It can be appreciated that the design of the swirl burner tip is for safe handling of the reactants, and for rapid and thorough mixing of the reactants so combustion occurs in a nearly premixed configuration exterior of the swirl burner tip. The H/Oratio is fixed to consume all Hand O(stoichiometric), with dry steam (HO (g)) strategically added to the reactants. The burner tip is configured to create counter swirling reactant flows separate from each other.
