    11/362111
  • Inventors:
James P. Dunyak - Lexington MA, US
John D. Fite - Clifton VA, US
Jerome M. Shapiro - Belmont MA, US
  • Assignee:
The Mitre Corporation - McLean VA
  • International Classification:
    H04B 1/00
  • US Classification:
    375148, 375144, 375346, 375347, 375348, 375349, 375350
  • Abstract:
Reduction of multiple access interference, in one example for asynchronous CDMA systems using long codes. In one aspect, parallel interference cancellation (PIC) implements a decoupled estimate, preferably non-linear and applied at chip intervals. According to another aspect, interference is cancelled using a technique that estimates bits for a symbol by interpolating signature waveforms for users to a common sampling lattice of the received data. According to another aspect, multi-stage, hybrid multi-stage, and reconfigurable recursive multi-stage multi-user detection architectures and corresponding processes are provided.

  • US Patent:
    7627021, Dec 1, 2009
  • Filed:
    Dec 15, 2004
  • Appl. No.:
    11/011757
  • Inventors:
Jerome M. Shapiro - Belmont MA, US
James P. Dunyak - Lexington MA, US
  • Assignee:
The MITRE Corporation - McLean VA
  • International Classification:
    H04B 1/00
  • US Classification:
    375148, 375144, 375340, 375346, 375347, 375348, 375349, 375350
  • Abstract:
A receiver that provides interference cancellation in conjunction with RAKE processing. Signal parameters corresponding to each of a plurality of fingers corresponding to RAKE processing are maintained. Synthesized pilot signals are estimated using the signal parameters by interpolating waveforms for respective ones of the plurality of synthesized pilot signals to a common sampling lattice of the received set of data, and are then cancelled out. According to another aspect, a receiver ensures completion of a time-critical process such as signal demodulation and adaptively applies a non-time-critical process such as interference cancellation to the extent that computational resources become available subject to ensuring the completion of the time-critical process.

  • US Patent:
    7975036, Jul 5, 2011
  • Filed:
    May 11, 2006
  • Appl. No.:
    11/431653
  • Inventors:
Dawn Szelc - Potomac Falls VA, US
James Dunyak - Lexington MA, US
  • Assignee:
The MITRE Corporation - McLean VA
  • International Classification:
    G06F 15/16
    G06F 15/173
  • US Classification:
    709223, 709230, 709224
  • Abstract:
Methods and systems for adaptive cross-layer cross-node optimization in wireless communication systems are provided. Adaptive cross-layer cross-node optimization allows for conventional cross-layer optimization coupled with the ability to adaptively optimize cross-layer interactions across node boundaries. In one aspect, adaptive cross-layer cross-node optimization includes adaptively and dynamically shifting functions/layers among nodes in a network, so that a global network objective is achieved. In another aspect, adaptive cross-layer cross-node optimization includes adaptively and dynamically distributing functions/layers across a network, according to changes and/or events in the network. In a further aspect, adaptive cross-layer cross-node optimization includes dynamically defining or changing individual node functions within a network, so that a global network functionality may emerge.
