Abstract:

A medical device for installing sutures to close an incision in tissue or human skin is disclosed. The suturing device may provide first and second arcuate needles. Once properly positioned, the first and second arcuate needles are driven through the sub-dermal layer, or alternatively through a superficial surface, of two sections of skin to be joined. This is done in arcuate fashion and at identical and symmetrical rates of angular displacement. During the driving or retraction process of the first and second arcuate needles, a suture is positioned within both the first and second sections of skin and transformed from a planar or a multi-planar serpentine orientation to a helical orientation. The resulting suturing process is thus much faster than conventional or manual suturing and results in superior wound approximation/alignment that will lead to decreased scarring compared to prior art devices.

Abstract:

A surgical suture with improved suture and/or knot security is disclosed. The suture may include an elongated core extending along an axis, and at least one axial array of projections provided on the core. Each projection extends from the core and terminates into an outer edge. The outer edge of the projection may have an axial length greater than that of a remainder of the projection. A method of using the suture to form a surgical stitch is also disclosed.

Abstract:

Disclosed is a foil dispensing machine for use in the process of hair coloring and highlighting. The machine can accommodate a commercially available roll of metal foil and includes a motor that can be used to unwind a piece of foil from the roll and dispense the piece from the machine. The machine further includes a cutter that is used to cut the dispensed foil from the remaining foil on the roll. The components of the machine are designed and positioned to reduce the likelihood that the foil will bunch up as it is being unwound from the roll. In some embodiments, the machine also includes a control device that can be programmed or adjusted to cause the machine to dispense foil in pre-set lengths. In some embodiments, the machine may be incorporated with a piece of furniture intended for placement in a hair salon.

Abstract:

In accordance with one aspect of the disclosure, a surgical fastener is disclosed. The surgical fastener includes a base at a proximal end of the surgical fastener. A first arm and a second arm extend helically from the base about a longitudinal axis towards a distal end of the surgical fastener. A first needle capture zone is disposed on a distal portion of the first arm, and a second needle capture zone is disposed on a distal portion of the second arm. The first needle capture zone and the second needle capture zone are configured to engage with a respective first needle and a second needle when the first and the second needle are extending from a fastener deployment device and disengage with the respective first and second needle when the first and the second needle are retracting into the fastener deployment device.

A suturing device is provided. The suturing device may include at least one suturing needle, a drive mechanism and an impulse mechanism. The drive mechanism may be operatively coupled to the suturing needle and configured to advance the suturing needle from a retracted position to an extended position during engagement, and retract the suturing needle from the extended position to the retracted position during disengagement. A tissue fastening device is provided. The tissue fastening device may include an elongate member having fastener guides extending between a working end and a control end and a firing aperture disposed on the working end, an arcuate needle disposed within the firing aperture of the working end and rotatable between a retracted position and an extended position, the arcuate needle including an antegrade recess configured to engagably receive an end of a fastener during advancement of the arcuate needle, and a drive mechanism operatively coupled to the arcuate needle and configured to, upon actuation, advance the arcuate needle in a forward rotation to engage the end of the fastener to be installed and push the end of the fastener through one of a tissue and a prosthetic material into a helical configuration.
