Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention provide systems and techniques for displaying data models and data-model instances. During operation, the system can use a model graph to represent the data model and an instance graph to represent the data-model instance. In the graph representation, a vertex can represent an entity or an entity instance, and an edge can represent a relationship or a relationship instance. The system can display the model graph and the instance graph, either separately or concurrently, thereby enabling the user to visually explore the data model and the data-model instance by exploring the associated graphs. The system can display paths in the graphs to the user, thereby enabling the user to visually explore how entities and entity instances are related to one another. The system can also enable a user to search for entities and relationships using various criteria.

Abstract:
Embodiments of a computer system, a method, a graphical user interface and a computer-program product (e. g. , software) for use with the computer system are described. These embodiments may be used to present income-tax information to a user. In particular, the user can provide aggregate values for one or more parameters in an income-tax return for the user by adjusting user-adjustable icons in the graphical user interface. In response to these user inputs, the computer system updates the displayed user-adjustable icons and determines summary information for the income-tax return which is associated with the user inputs. This summary information is displayed using a qualitative-tax-estimator icon in the graphical user interface and/or by displaying a numerical value for the summary information in a quantitative-tax-estimator window in the graphical user interface.

Abstract:
A computer implemented method for managing job scheduling is provided. In one example, the method includes receiving a request to process a job for a first compute instance, the job having a predetermined wait time before requesting a second compute instance, and determining the status of a pool of existing instances potentially available to service the job. If the probability that a computing instance of the pool will become available before the predetermined wait time is less than a predetermined probability, the method schedules the job to a new instance of the pool of existing instances. If the probability that a computing instance will become available before the predetermined wait time is greater than the predetermined probability the method maintains the job with the first instance. In some examples, the compute instances relate to genomic sequence data processing and analysis.

Abstract:
A computer application programming interface (API) for interacting with genomic data. Genomic data is stored by a genomic information provider using cloud-optimized, tabular structures in the form of genomic tables. A client computer may instruct, via API method calls, the genomic information provider to create a genomic table. Client computers may add genomic data to the genomic table via additional API method calls. A client computer may close the genomic table via an API method call. Once closed, client computers may retrieve genomic data based on genomic coordinates from the genomic table via API method calls. In this way, the transmission of genomic data via flat files can be avoided.

A repository of DNA sequence data is available online. A user can query the repository using a search term. Search results that are provided by the repository include information about studies, experiments, samples, and/or runs that are related to the search term. A user can select one or more of the displayed search results. Based on the user selection, the repository provides relationship(s) between the selected results and run(s). Runs may be associated with DNA sequence data. The determined relationship between the search term and any available DNA sequence data is displayed. The DNA sequence data may be obtained by the user using, for example, the FASTQ format and/or the SRA format.
