Emily's essay, entitled "The Trope of the Metaphorical Cyborg in Mapping Transnational Feminist Practice," can still be found online.
New York Times James B. Reston Nonfiction Portfolio National Finalist
The New York Times
A national competition hosted by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers awarding promising nonfiction portfolios from high school seniors interested in journalism as a career path. Portfolios must contain three to eight writing pieces forming a "collection of nonfiction works intended to instruct, inform, explain, persuade, or entertain."
National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Achievement Awards in Writing
NCTE and Scholastic, Inc.
Achievement Awards in Writing is a school-based writing program established in 1957 to encourage high school students in their writing and to recognize publicly some of the best student writers in the nation. The National Council of Teachers of English recognize students cited as excellent writers by judges. NCTE awarded Emily a "Regional Finalist" prize as a junior in high school.
