A method is provided in which checkpointing operations are carried out in data processing systems running multiple processes which employ shared memory in a manner which preserves data coherence and integrity but which places no timing restrictions or constraints which require coordination of checkpointing operations. Data structures within local process memory and within shared memory provide the checkpoint operation with application level information concerning shared memory resources specific to at least two processes being checkpointed. Methods are provided for establishing, restoring and releasing shared memory regions that are accessed by multiple cooperating processes.

Abstract:

An MPI library including selective I/O agent assignment from among executing tasks, provides improved performance. An MPI job is made up of a number of tasks. I/O operations in an MPI job are performed by tasks assigned as I/O agents. I/O agents are assigned such that the number of tasks assigned as I/O agents are less than the total number of tasks that make up the MPI job. In a dynamic MPI job, I/O agents may be selected from among tasks executing on a lead world or may be spread across multiple worlds. To perform I/O operations initiated by any tasks of an MPI job, including tasks not assigned as I/O agents, the MPI library instantiates worker threads within the tasks assigned as I/O agents. Once the tasks are assigned as I/O agents, identity information of the I/O agents may be stored so that a repeat assignment is not necessary.

Abstract:

A method includes identifying a first distributed conversion and control assembly (DCCA) in a central electronics complex (CEC) of a computer system, the CEC containing the first DCCA and a second DCCA, each of the first DCCA and the second DCCA having a flexible service processor (FSP); determining that the computer system satisfies preconditions for concurrent replacement of the first DCCA; disabling control software for a thermal and power management device (TPMD) of the first DCCA; fencing off the first DCCA; depowering the first DCCA; receiving a new media access control (MAC) address of a replacement DCCA; reconfiguring an operating system of the CEC to recognize the new MAC address of the replacement DCCA; powering on the replacement DCCA; removing the fencing off of the first DCCA; and resetting an FSP of the replacement DCCA.
