Abstract:

The invention is a detection and prevention system to detect and prevent fluid leaks in a property that may cause damage to the property. The sources of the leaks may include, for example, toilets, hot water heater, sinks, washing machines, water makers and broken pipes or other sources of fluid leaks. The inventive may include one or more sender units that may be positioned at various locations on a property. The sender units may have a fluid sensor (for detecting a fluid leak) and a transmitter (for communicating with a base unit). The base unit may receive signals from the transmitter when the fluid sensors detect a fluid. The base unit may then communicate with a main shut off valve to restrict the flow of fluids onto the property.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus which can provide a temperature estimate in a hard disk drive or other electronic device is provided. Output from the sensor, which may be indicative of a location spaced from the target temperature location, is sampled and integrated over an interval of time to form an estimate of average input sensor voltage. During the time interval, history of the HDD pre-amplifier operating modes is accumulated. The results are combined to form an estimate of HDA ambient temperature. Sensor offsets associated with each power mode, and weighted to the corresponding mode duty, can be subtracted from the average input sensor voltage.

Abstract:

An efficient multicast key management is achieved by using seals. A security server generates a seal. In one embodiment, the seal contains a key. In another embodiment, the seal contains information for generating a key. An application server requests the seal from the security server and broadcasts the seal to a plurality of recipients. A recipient wishing to encrypt or decrypt a data stream transmits the received seal to the security server to be opened. If the recipient is authorized, the security server transmits a permit to the authorized recipient. In one embodiment, the recipient generates a key from the permit. In another embodiment, the permit is the key. If the recipient is a sender, the recipient encrypts data using the key and broadcasts the same encrypted data stream to all receivers. If the recipient is a receiver, the recipient decrypts an encrypted data stream using the key. In one embodiment, a seal with a corresponding offset value is sent periodically in a data stream.

An arrangement, a method and a system to read information stored in a layer of ferroelectric media. Abstract:

Systems in accordance with the present invention can include a tip contactable with a media, the media including a phase change material disposed over a substrate, a lubricant layer disposed over the phase change material, and optionally an overcoat disposed between the phase change material and the lubricant layer. The lubricant layer can include polymer chains (also referred to herein as polymer fibers), the polymer chains being adapted to bond to one of the phase change material and an overcoat. Where an overcoat is used, the overcoat is a highly anisotropic material that conducts current more efficiently through the overcoat than across the overcoat. The media is either grounded or electrically connected with a voltage source such that when the tip is placed in contact with the media and a voltage is applied to the tip, a current is drawn through the media. The lubricant layer reduces wear on the tip by providing a movable surface that does not stick to the tip, but rather holds to the bonded surface.

Abstract:

Systems in accordance with the present invention can include a tip contactable with a media, the media including a phase change material in an embodiment (or polarity-dependent memory material or other memory material in other embodiments) disposed between a substrate and an overcoat. The overcoat is a co-deposited film having a conductive portion and a substantially non-conductive portion, the co-deposited film conducting current more efficiently through the overcoat than across the overcoat. The overcoat substantially directs the current so that a portion of the phase change material directly beneath the tip is heated to a sufficient temperature such that the structure of the material become disordered. The current is then removed from the phase change material, which is quickly cooled to form an domain having a resistivity larger than the crystalline bulk structure.

A method of forming a passivation layer over a ferroelectric layer of a ferroelectric media comprises introducing the ferroelectric layer to a plasma comprising one of oxygen, oxygen-helium, and oxygen-nitrogen-helium, etching a surface of the ferroelectric layer, forming one of a substantially oxygen enriched layer and a substantially hydroxyl enriched layer at the surface of the ferroelectric layer, introducing the ferroelectric layer to an environment comprising substantially nitrogen, and maintaining the ferroelectric layer within the environment so that nitrogen enriches the substantially oxygen enriched layer to form a passivation layer.
