Abstract:
A sterilizable, plastic medical container has a body section formed of thin, multi layer film. The film has a first layer formed of cross-linkable plastic free or essentially free of extractable plasticizers, such as poly(ethylene vinyl acetate), and a second layer formed of a substantially non-cross-linkable plastic having a higher melting temperature than the first layer, such as high density polyethylene. The first layer is inwardly oriented in contact with the contents of the container. A port formed of the same plastic can be heat sealed to the body section. The container is irradiated to effect cross-linking, filled with fluid, and the port sealed. The fluid filled container can then be heat or steam sterilized.

Abstract:
A catheter is provided with an improved hub assembly. The catheter defines an end which, in turn, defines a relatively enlarged transverse dimension for the catheter wall and a thickened annular lip, when compared with an adjacent portion of the catheter. A catheter hub defines a bore portion, the bore portion in turn defining a relatively constricted portion and a relatively enlarged portion. The enlarged catheter end is positioned within the relatively enlarged portion of the bore, while the adjacent portion of the catheter is positioned within the relatively constricted portion of the hub. A rigid tubular funnel fits within the bore of the catheter. As a result of this the collapse and subsequent passage of the enlarged catheter end through the relatively constricted portion of the hub is prevented.

Abstract:
Antimicrobial compositions finding particular utility for coating access systems, lead devices including shunts, cannulae, catheters, catheter adapters, wires and other solid or hollow tubular devices used for a variety of medical purposes is provided. The composition comprises a material selected from the group consisting of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers, polyvinyl chloride, mixtures thereof, polyesters, polyurethanes, styrene-block copolymers, natural and synthetic rubbers, polycarbonates, nylon and silicone rubber mixed with an oligodynamic material consisting essentially of compounds of physiological, antimicrobial metals.
Connector Member Adapted For Ultraviolet Antimicrobial Irradiation
A connector member (11) is disclosed for sealed connection with a second connector member (30), to permit sealed flow of material through the joined connector members. The connector member (11) is made of a material selected from the group consisting of aliphatic hydrocarbon resins, aliphatic polyester resins, copolymers of olefins and vinyl acetate, and olefin-acrylate copolymers. The material also contains an effective amount of an antioxidant agent being selected to provide to the material the characteristic of permitting transmission of at least 15 percent of at least one wavelength of ultraviolet radiation having a wavelength between 220 and 300 nanometers through a thickness of 0. 003 inch of the material.
