Abstract:
A method for removing dissolved contaminants from solution using a surface-activated crystalline titanium oxide product having a high adsorptive capacity and a high rate of adsorption with respect to dissolved contaminants, in particular, arsenate and arsenite. Preferably, the titanium oxide product includes crystalline anatase having primary crystallite diameters in the range of 1-30 nm. The surface-activated titanium oxide is combined with other filter media to further improve the removal of dissolved contaminants.

Dow Global Technologies LLC - Midland MI
International Classification:
B05D 5/00
US Classification:
427245, 427244, 42725512
Abstract:
A method for making dual-sided membrane sheet comprises the steps of: a) forming a microporous polymer sheet including a plurality of capillary channels and b) forming a semi-permeable discriminating layer upon at least a portion of the opposing outer surfaces of the sheet, wherein the sheet is advanced along a production pathway during at least a portion of: step a), step b), or while transferring the sheet from step a) to step b) by engaging the sheet along one or more of its edge sections.
Use Of Acoustic Signals For Measuring Membrane Fouling In Spiral Wound Modules
A spiral wound module assembly comprising: a permeate collection tube, at least one membrane envelope wound about the permeate collection tube, an outer module housing, and at least one acoustic transducer located adjacent to the permeate collection tube. Several embodiments are disclosed including a stand-alone probe adapted for insertion into the permeate collection tube. In several other embodiments, one or more transducers are secured to the inner surface of the permeate collection tube. The invention further includes a method of measuring membrane fouling within a spiral wound module comprising the steps of: a) transmitting an acoustic signal from a location adjacent to the permeate collection tube; b) receiving an echo signal resulting from the transmitted acoustic signal reflecting from an interface within the module; c) providing a reference signal corresponding to a known state of membrane fouling; d) comparing the echo signal to the reference signal; and e) determining a state of membrane fouling based upon the comparison of the echo signal and reference signal.
Filtration Module Including Membrane Sheet With Capillary Channels
A filtration module comprising at least one membrane sheet comprising a plurality of capillary channels in parallel arrangement with each other and which are in fluid communication with a header.
Tubesheet And Method For Making And Using The Same
A tubesheet, modules incorporating tubesheets and methods for making and using the same. In one embodiment the invention includes a tubesheet comprising: i) a plurality of aligned semi-permeable hollow fiber membranes each comprising a cylindrical porous structure surrounding a lumen and extending between a first and second end and further comprising a first segment located adjacent the first end and a second segment located adjacent to the second end and ii) a block of potting material including an interfacial surface. The first segment of the hollow fiber membrane is embedded within the block of potting material and the second segment extends from the interfacial surface of the block. The tubesheet further comprises a penetrating extension of potting material within the porous structure of the second segment of the hollow fiber membrane that extends along a length from the interfacial surface of the block to a distal end.

Abstract:
Disclosed herein are microporous films comprising polymer blends comprising at least two polymers and a compatibilizer. The films may also comprise at least one ethylene/α-olefin interpolymer and two different polyolefins which can be homopolymers. The ethylene/α-olefin interpolymers are block copolymers comprising at least a hard block and at least a soft block. In some embodiments, the ethylene/α-olefin interpolymer can function as a compatibilizer between the two polyolefins which may not be otherwise compatible. Methods of making the polymer blends and microporous films made from the polymer blends are also described.
