Abstract:
A method for improving single photon emission computed tomography by controlling acquisition parameters specific to the imaging goals and specific to the individual case under study. Data acquisition is modulated by scanning to adapt to the particular signal to noise characteristics of each object. A preliminary acquisition quickly scans the object of interest. The preliminary data is analyzed to optimize the secondary scan. The secondary scan is then acquired with optimized sampling of the object based on its own particular image characteristics. The system is able to learn, incorporating site specific data into a triaging set.

Abstract:
A radiation detection, localization, and identification system uses a searching algorithm to identify hypothetical solutions to Compton scatter data. Model based representations of the physical data collection yield the location of radiation sources when suppressed correlations of source location are identified in processed event data. The system's detector is an array of radiation detectors networked to act as a single detection system. This network has wide area of view and high sensitivity to radiation sources since no collimation is required.
Internal Feature Determination From Field Interactions In A Complex Medium
A method and system is disclosed for determining the internal structure and constituent properties of complexly structured materials using a computational simulation engine to calculate field propagation properties, physical testing of the materials to obtain measured field properties, and correlation of the calculated and measured field properties. The complexly structured materials consist of particles, inclusions, or voids of arbitrary distributions and compositions suspended in a matrix. The particles or inclusions can additionally display substructure such as layers or embedded subparticles, sub-inclusions, or voids. The simulation engine calculates multiple scattering in simulated materials using a multipole expansion method, and is used to generate a look-up table of propagation properties for a range of probable structures and compositions. The measurements are then classified with respect to the look-up table. The simulation results that most closely fit the test measurements provide an assessment of the internal structure and constituent properties of the material. Examples of fields that are applicable to this method and system include but are not limited to acoustic, ultrasonic, shear, seismic, and electromagnetic fields.

Abstract:
A method for determining a pathology of a tissue sample. The method includes steps of coupling the tissue sample between two oppositely-facing ultrasonic transducers; acquiring a pulse-echo ultrasonic measurement and a through-transmission ultrasonic measurement of the tissue sample using the ultrasonic transducers; analyzing at least one of the pulse-echo ultrasonic measurement and the through-transducer transmission ultrasonic measurement using time domain analysis; analyzing at least one of the through-transmission ultrasonic measurements and the pulse-echo ultrasonic measurements using frequency domain analysis; and determining the pathology of the tissue sample based on at least one of the time domain analysis and the frequency domain analysis.

Abstract:
A scanning system (10) for inspecting a surface (16) including a light source (30) which generates a beam of light (32) that is reflected, scattered or causes fluorescence at the surface to be inspected. An optical interface (14) receives the beam of light and directs it along a predetermined path extending to and from the surface. An acousto-optic tunable filter (34) tuned to pass light having a wavelength corresponding to a known optical property of a predetermined material is positioned within the path of light. A detector (42) is positioned to receive light emanating from the surface and is configured to monitor the intensity of light at each predetermined wavelength being monitored and generate a corrsponding signal. The system is preferably attached to a scan board (90) thereby enabling the system to be used in scanning a surface. The system also includes a signal processor (22) which processes the signal generated by the detector.

Line of Duty survivors want to help family of slain officer
Brandon Thacker, a 27-year-old Kentucky Alcohol Beverage Control Officer from Louisville, was working a detail in Western Kentucky. As Thacker tried to stop Timothy Doyle, an erratic driver on the Western Kentucky Parkway, Doyle pulled a gun and shot Thacker April 16, 1998.Timothy Doyle was found mentally ill and served only 10 years of his 20 year sentence for killing an officer. The judicial system is part of the anger a family may deal with. There's also the stress of raising children alone. Jennifer and Brandon Thacker had an 18-month-old daughter Katherine.
