visiting the school-grade standards later this year, when the department gets ready to issue the next round of report cards. But board member John Padget, the only member to vote against Stewarts proposals, was skeptical about the chances to increase standards and cause more schools to fail.
Board member John Padget wanted even stricter scoring, one that might mean a "cold shower" for students who fail the exams -- but then they'd have time to recoup before graduation. He said it would ensure more students left high school well-prepared.
"If Asians can have a goal of 90% in reading, why can't whites, and other subcategories? So I would just ask my fellow board members if we are happy with the signal this sends," said board member John Padget, WTLV/WJXX TV's Kaitlyn Ross reports from Jacksonville.
