Abstract:

A ganged inkjet printhead sealing system maintains inkjet printhead health in an inkjet printing mechanism during periods of printing inactivity. In multi-printhead printing mechanisms, separate caps seal against each of the printheads. The caps each have an outlet vent. The vents are all ganged together and fluidically coupled to a single, common pressure regulation chamber that isolates the environment adjacent the printhead nozzles from the external environment when the printheads are capped. A fluid in a U-shaped manometer tube, or an elastomeric bladder are used to isolate the pressure chamber environment. The bladder may be constructed as a thin-walled sheet, a spring-biased bag, or as a bellows. The pressure chamber volume changes to accommodate pressure spikes during the capping process, as well as environmental changes in temperature, elevation, barometric pressure, etc. An inkjet printing mechanism having such a ganged capping system, along with associated capping methods are also provided.

Abstract:

A bellows capping system is provided for sealing ink-ejecting nozzles of an inkjet printhead in an inkjet printing mechanism, such as a printer, during periods of printing inactivity. The system includes a support which moves between a sealing position and a rest position. The system also has a cap which extends from the support and terminates in a lip. The lip surrounds the nozzles when the support is in the sealing position. The cap has a wall with first and second leg portions joined together at a knee portion between the support and the lip. When sealing the printhead, the knee bends or buckles so the first and second portions collapse toward each other. Multiple knee portions may join together multiple wall portions in a bellows or accordion arrangement. An inkjet printing mechanism having the bellows capping system and method of using this capping system are also provided.

Abstract:

A positive stop capping system is provided for sealing an inkjet printhead in an inkjet printing mechanism during periods of printing inactivity. A positive stop or brace is provided in a cavity defined under a cap cover skin, with the skin also forming a sealing lip which surrounds ink-ejecting nozzles of the printhead when sealed. The flexible skin supporting the lip deflects into the cavity toward the brace when the cap is moved into a sealing position, in some cases contacting the brace, and in other cases, compressing the brace. An inkjet printing mechanism having the positive stop capping system and method of capping using this system are also provided.

A system for receiving and recycling ink comprises a print cartridge having a printhead, and an ink supply reservoir fluidly connected to the print cartridge and a seal member coupled to the ink supply reservoir. The seal member defines a fluid path into the reservoir and the print cartridge engages the seal member so that ink spit from the printhead flows through the fluid path into the reservoir.
